Today the Inter-County Championships will be held at Reading. for which five members of Wallasey Athletic Club have been chosen.
The original four of John Wright, Ron Barlow, Brian Woolford and Kevin Mather, have now been joined by Tony Townsend, who replaces Ray Phipps of Winnington Park, who is indisposed. This means that the Cheshire team consists of five members from Wallasey Athletic Club and four members from Wirral A.C. something of a record for the West Cheshire clubs.
Today also sees the start of a hard racing programme for the members of the athletic club, with a race practically every Saturday for several weeks, following next weeks Liverpool & District Championships at Sherdley Park, we have the West Lancs. Championships at Leyland, the St. Asaph to Rhyl Road Race and then the Northern Championships at Blackburn. This is a racing programme that will test to the utmost, the fitness of any runners in the club and it is to be hoped that a steady build up of training intensity is being used, in order that they can increase their racing performance with each week.
