In a recent match at Waterloo, Wallasey Athletic Club lost to Waterloo A.C. by twenty-five points to seventeen. Wallasey took first and second places in the boys' 100 yards with A. McTeer and A. Ferris, time 11.2 seconds.
A. McArthur won the youth 100, but Waterloo took second and third places to halve the points for the event. In the junior race, Dave Duncan could only register third place. Fourteen-year-old, J. Wooley ran a fine race to finish third in the youth 880 yards, time 2 minutes 21.2 seconds. Dave Duncan provided the highlight of the evening when running in the junior 880: J. Madden, (Waterloo) was eventual winner in 2 minutes 7.8 seconds with Dave 1.8 seconds behind in second place - to give four years advantage and hold his opponent to five yards was a sterling performance.
A. McArthur won the junior 220 yards race in 25.4 seconds. A. McTeer gained second place in the youth 220 yards in 27.2 seconds.
Several club members competed in the graded scratch events held at Port Sunlight on Wednesday last week. Carl Gee won the senior discus throw with a distance of 122 feet. Seven club members took part in the 880 yards races, held in three grades. Brian Chalton gained third place in the 'A' grade, in 2 minutes 5.5 seconds for his own personal best performance at this event. Dave Duncan improved on his previous week's time to win the 'B' grade race in 2 minutes 7.0 seconds, a magnificent effort for a lad just turned fifteen years. Bill Morris was second (2 mins 9.2 seconds) and Dave Noble third. K. Kal won the 'C' grade race, time 2 minutes 23.9 secs.
Today the Cheshire County track championships are to be held at Helsby. Club transport has been arranged and competitors are asked to assemble at Birkenhead Town Hall at 1 p.m.
Inter-club fixtures have been arranged with Sefton Harriers at Leasowe on Thursday evening, June 11 and at Lingham Lane with Moreton A.C. on June 18.
Arrangements are being made to hold two athletic weekends under canvas in three or four weeks time. Members will be notified of further details by circular.
