Last Saturday a youth team went to Winton near Eccles, to race in the Electrical Industries Cross-Country Championships and the Northern Counties Women's Cross-Country Championships.
The Wallasey youth team finished in 4th place. Ron Barlow attaining second place behind C. Broom (East Lancashire Harriers). Quite a notable performance considering that Ron ran while suffering from an attack of influenza. Ken Tunstall showed a welcome return to form when he finished 22nd, he was followed by Tony Farrell slightly off form 28th, Phil Townsend 32nd, Dave White 34th, and Jack Daniels who in his first big race did quite well to finish in 40th position.
East Cheshire Harriers won the team race with 26 points.
Unfortunately Wallasey once again failed to finish a senior team, having only five runners out of the six necessary to make up a team.
John Lynch was once again first up for the club, finishing 51st. He was followed by John Ryan, Colin Harris, Hugh Pritchard and Ray Scammell. The individual winner of the race was Fred Norris of Bolton, followed by Johnny Wilde of East Cheshire. The team race was won by Manchester & District L.C. with 87 points.
Next week to celebrate our jubilee years we are holding a competition in which a number of teams race against. Each other, the winners being the team that covers the greatest distance in the specified time.
The club dinner is being held on the 24th as part of the 'Jubilee' celebrations and all persons wishing to go should get in touch with the treasurer, Mr. J. Prydderch not later than Monday, March 19th.
