In the Liverpool City marathon, Frank Ledward came close to realising an ambition.
Over the past year he had been watching a number of athletes in marathon racing and in this race over 26 miles 385 yards Frank, along with J. Lynch and R. Scammell, all completed the distance.
John Lynch, who was the first Wallasey man home in 26th position, was not very pleased with his performance, although he was placed fourth in the Cheshire County Championship, which was run in conjunction with the Liverpool marathon. Frank was the next man home in 37th position and Ray Scammell 42nd.
These men have been training vary hard for this particular race, and the result is exceptionally pleasing as it is indeed a great athletic achievement in itself to complete the distance irrespective of the individual or team placings.
