The Cheshire County Athletic championships will take place this year at Lingham Park, Moreton, were work on laying the A.A.A. running track has been going on through the winter.
Leading Cheshire athletes will take part in the events. The closing date for entries is May 19 and forms can be obtained from Mr. R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, New Brighton.
Today four athletes are to represent W.A.C. in the third annual Pembroke 20-mile road race. The four runners are F. Ledward, R. Scammell, M. Devereux and J. Lynch. For two of these runners this is a new form of racing, but F. Ledward has been running for nearly 30 years in this type of race meeting and has competed in the A.A.A. marathon and twice in the Pembroke marathon. The other long distance man is R. Scammell, who ran competed in Dublin in a 20-mile road race, and both of these runners have carried the Wallasey colours in the annual Liverpool marathon. The race consists of 4 laps of 5 miles each and is to be held at Longview Lane, Huyton, near Liverpool.
On Wednesday, April 26 Wallasey A.C. abandoned their spiked running shoes and donned football boots for their annual name against Wallasey Royals at Belvidere Road.
Enthusiasm could not succeed against experience and although W.A.C. tried hard and had a number of good shots cleared off the goal line by the Royals' fullbacks, they were defeated by 9 goals to nil, three of the Royals' players scoring hat-tricks.
