Congratulations to Roy Parry on being chosen first reserve for the Cheshire County Cross-Country team. This honour followed the results of the senior
championships at Hyde on Jan. 2nd, when Roy finished 10th. This is his first year as a senior in cross-country, and as he is only 18, he seems set for a grand future.
The course was extremely difficult due to the fog and frost. Many teams suffered casualties and Eric Maddock was unfortunate when running 15th with about a mile to go, and badly sprained his ankle.
Alan Clarke 38th, Dennis Kelly 39th, Dave Standfast 49th, Hugh Pritchard 53rd and Ray Scammell 56th, gave Wallasey 245 points, for 6th team place.
The youths fared better and finished 4th as a team with 68 points. Brian Woolford was 10th, Roy Shaw 13th, Peter White 21st, and Ian Mclvor 24th. Wally Hogarth was not fit, following his operation, and had to drop out he has decided against further serious running this season.
The boys were very disappointed as they arrived too late, due to the fog and distance of the journey, to take part in their event.
This Saturday, Jan. 9th, are the club championships and a good turnout is hoped for. The boys' race starts at 3 p.m. prompt with the seniors' 9 miles, juniors' 6 miles, and youths' 3 miles, starting at 3:15 p.m., and at five minute intervals. This method is being used to assist the officials with the finish of each race, and members are asked to be ready on time for their start.
