A good turn-out and ideal weather made an enjoyable afternoon for all those who took part in the club's Christmas handicap last Saturday.
The boys' event over 11/8 miles, saw R. McDonald, R. Barlow and A. Farrell in the first three places of the handicap event, closely followed by E. Warden, K. Tunstall and M. Hooker. Out of the nine runners taking part the three fastest were R. Barlow 9 mins. 2 secs., K. Tunstall 9 mins. 38 secs. and A. Farrell 9 mins. 53 secs.
Twenty runners took part in the main event for youths, juniors and seniors. The first six `home' in the handicap event being Alan Nichols, Brian Woolford, Ian McIvor, Roy Parry, Bob Fullerton and Ray Wood. The event was over 3½ miles and Roy Parry, off
scratch, ran an excellent race to return the time of18 mins. 9 secs. Eric Maddock and Alan Clarke returned times of 19 mins. 5 secs. and 19 mins. 45 secs., but with their handicaps were unable to gain a place.
This Saturday, the club has a morning fixture Athletes v. Cyclists. The cycling club are fielding a strong team so it is hoped, that despite the feastings the turn out at 11:30 a.m. for the athletic club will be as strong as last week, if so, this should be a novel and interesting event.
Reminder! Cheshire Championships, January 2, leave Seacombe Ferry 12:30 or Birkenhead Town Hall 12:45 p.m. The event is at Hyde, near Manchester and anyone who would like to watch is asked to contact R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, Wallasey, or R. Woolley, 8 Bradman Road, Moreton.
