The annual West Lancashire cross-country championships were held at the R.A.F. camp, West Kirby, this afternoon.
First surprise of the afternoon was in the boys' race, in which the favourite, K. Thomson (Liverpool Harriers), fell rather heavily and finished well down the field. K. Gilligan made no mistake after his narrow defeat in the Liverpool & District event, and was an easy winner of the youths' race by just on 100 yards.
Boys' championships. - 1, Wallasey A.C. (23 points); 2, Prenton Secondary Schools (34): 3, Liverpool Harriers (80). Individual placings: 1, W. Hogarth (Wallasey A.C.); 2. J. C. Pearson (Sutton Harriers): 3, T. Woodhouse (Wirral A.C.). Time: 13 mins. 54 secs.
Youths' championships. - 1, Sutton Harriers (33 points); 2, Liverpool Harriers (57); 3, Wallasey A.C. (58). Individual placings: 1, K. Gilligan (Waterloo Harriers): 2, R. Parry (Wallasey A.C.). 3. M. Batty (Sefton Harriers). Time: 20 mins. 7 secs.
