Wallasey A.C. athletes on Saturday had a fairly thin afternoon, largely due to the absence of so many numbers through holidays.
The main event of the day was the inter-club meeting at Port Sunlight, when Wallasey's only real success was K. D. Rimmer in the long jump who proved a most capable stand-in for Len Platt by winning with a fine jump of 21ft. 9½ins.
Roy Parry was a good third in the junior half mile with a time of 2min. 5secs., and discus thrower Carl Gee was also third in his event.
At the Liverpool Caledonian Games, Matt Smith and J. P. Hetherington, who trains with Wallasey A.C., were successful in carrying off five prizes between them, while at the Chester Sports on Bank Holiday newcomer M. A. Price showed considerable promise in the 100 yards sprint.
Tickets for the club dance at the Tower Ballroom on Friday, August 21 can be obtained from any club member or Ron Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, New Brighton.
