On Saturday last Wallasey Athletic Club competed in the Sefton Park Relay, the result
being a triumph for Wirral A.C. with a record breaking team of eight runners who created a course record of 2 hours 18 mins. 24 seconds for the 26 mile course.
Wallasey's time of 2 hours 30 minutes 3 seconds was one of the slowest ever recorded by a Wallasey team in this event, and it clearly illustrated that training is absolutely essential as all members of the team were capable of faster times than those recorded had they trained adequately for the event.
Bob Johnston gave the club a fine start covering the 3¼ mile lap in a time of 16 minutes 39 seconds only two seconds slower than Northern cross-country champion Barry of Wirral, and it was only over the last 100 yards that Barry drew away to record a time of 16 minutes 37 seconds.
