Liverpool Pembroke A.C. brought a strong team to Leasowe on Saturday for the cross-country fixture with Wallasey Athletic Club and scored any easy team success over a 6½ mile course.
Bob Johnston, the Wallasey and Liverpool & District junior champion, who last week again qualified to represent Cheshire, had the individual race to himself and ran home an easy first.
Eric Maddock, member of the winning Cheshire County youths' team last Saturday was second man to finish for the home club and he was closely followed in by the other Wallasey counters, Eric Foster, John Lynch, John Edwards and Jim Johnston, Maddock, Lynch and Johnston are all juniors (under 21) and their running against good senior opposition was exceptionally praiseworthy. A. Dinsdale the Wallasey senior champion was out again and moved well to the half distance. A. Dickinson and R. McCaig ran strongly in support.
Application for membership to Bob McCaig, 30 Taunton Road (Wallasey 8904) or Bob Johnston, 65 Bell Road.
Today the popular Christmas handicap will be held over a three-mile course with the customary prize for every finisher. The start is at 3 p.m.
