As the start of the cross-country season draws near it is pleasing to see quite a number of younger members are training, but the absence of senior members is still noticeable. This, I hope, will be remedied as the season progresses, as their experience could be of valuable assistance to the younger members.

Last Saturday saw the annual Waterloo Road Race being run over 63/4 miles of Waterloo roads. The inhabitants of Waterloo must have been surprised at seeing about two hundred runners in gaily coloured vests racing past their houses.

03 December 1955   Wallasey Athletic Club's success
Last Saturday saw our last Liverpool & District Cross-Country League fixture. This one was against Waterloo Harriers and Warrington Harriers at Crosby. The result must have surprised several of our runners in that we won our first league fixture of the season instead of finishing second or third as we usually do.

31 December 1955   Fog at Christmas Handicap
The Christmas handicap last Saturday was somewhat marred by fog, but conditions did not interfere with any of the races. The first of the two races was for the boys, the course being along Leasowe Road up to Moreton shore and back.

07 January 1956   Athletic club championships - Local runners' good form and speed
In the Wallasey Athletic Club cross-country championships last Saturday, Ken Poyning showed more of the good form he is having this season, winning the boys' race. Second was Brian Anthony and third Brian Shaw. The sealed handicap for the race was won by Ron Edwards, who was placed in fifth postion.

21 January 1956   Wallasey AC in cyclo cross fixture
Last Saturday the club had their postponed cyclo cross fixture against the Wallasey Cyclists. The race was won for the second year in succession by cyclist Johnny Fryer. He just beat Ron Barlow by a few feet in a thrilling finish.

Last Saturday members of the Wallasey Athletic Club were hosts to Southport Harriers in a friendly cross-country fixture. It was run in deplorable weather conditions, the bitter east wind, accompanied by sleet and rain proving a great handicap for the runners.

A strong team of Wallasey athletes made their way to Helsby B.l.C.C. Sports last Saturday. Out of 47 starters in the 100 yds. Wallasey A.C. had two athletes in the last 6. E. Bennett, and Mr. A. Price the latter gained 2nd place in the final in a time of 10 seconds.

At the three-cornered meeting between Waterloo, Southport and Wallasey last Monday at Waterloo, Southport and Waterloo were no match against a strong Wallasey team. The result was a win for Wallasey with 50 points, Waterloo 2nd with 37 points and Southport 21 points, scoring 5-3-1 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings.

Today's Wallasey's marathon runners, F. K. Ledward, R. Scammell and J. Lynch are due to run in the Liverpool marathon. The race starts at 2-15 p.m. from St. George's Hall and finishes at Liverpool's Football Ground.

In the Liverpool City marathon, Frank Ledward came close to realising an ambition. Over the past year he had been watching a number of athletes in marathon racing and in this race over 26 miles 385 yards Frank, along with J. Lynch and R. Scammell, all completed the distance.
