I was aiming for 5.30 so not sure why I'm slightly annoyed with 5.03. Would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys long trail races in the mountains". Jez finished in 24th place of over 700, a great effort.

Vale of Clwyd Half Marathon - 13.1 Miles - Sunday 27 November 2016

The Vale of Clwyd Half Marathon course was described as "Wonderfully scenic, the undulating route taking you to the villages of Llangynhafal, Gellifor, Llanychan and Llanynys before finishing where you started, in Llandyrnog village. Despite the undulations, there are some very fast sections which explains the many PB's that have been achieved on the route." The race attracted Caet Cuthbert who completed the course in 02:20 for 75th place.

Steve Armstrong took up the challenge at midnight and raced through to past midday before succumbing to injury, but not before he had covered 47.7 as the crow flies. Steve said "Just didn't seem to be my day!".

Self Transcendence Track 24 - - Saturday 17 September 2016

Nick Holt

A selection of 45 of the UK's most experienced and promising ultra runners took on the physical and mental challenge of covering the greatest distance they can in 24 hours, making as many loops of the track as possible in the Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race. Nick Holt was up for the challenge and with his wife Sallie as support crew headed off to London for the event which has been run since 1989. Nick said "At 12 o'clock on the 17th September, I started the Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race at Tooting Bec. 378 and a bit laps later, I finished (with Sal who'd been supporting me the whole time at my side), smiling, but very, very sore. 151.472km or 94.12 miles. I would have loved to get to the magic 100 but I quite simply wasn't good enough on the day. It's a raw, stripped down running event but it's brilliant, incredibly well supported and at £49 entry, I defy you to find a better value for money race anywhere in the world. I'm very glad I've done it, and no, I won't be back next year...happy to crew for a fellow Wallasyean if anyone fancies it though...". That's an amazing 378 laps, well done Nick. Photos

Man vs Mountain - 20 Miles - Sunday 04 September 2016

Karl Bunnell fancied the Man vs Mountain challenge in North Wales, Karl said "I successfully completed Man Vs Mountain in some truly AWFUL weather conditions. Start was delayed by 1/2 hour after flooding, a downpour of rain that lasted over 7 hours and 'hurricane wind' at the summit of Snowdon meant the organisers chopped a mile off the course for safety. Apart from that I completed it in roughly 5 and a half hours way below the time I expected."

Comrades Ultra Marathon - 56.2 Miles - Sunday 29 May 2016

Martin Connell

Martin Connell travelled to South Africa for the Comrades Ultra Marathon for the third year running. Martin Martin Connellsaid after the race "Comrades ultra 2016, Tag line, "it will humble you". So true. 90k of the hills and roads in South Africa. This race challenges you, massive highs and equal lows, and will find out any weaknesses in you. Possibly went off too fast, still on target for sub 9hrs till 45-50k then sick. Something disagreeing with me. All plans for a sub 9 finish Bill Rowan medal off, had to adjust, grind for a bit, and put some hard miles in to finish. The downhill especially destroys your legs & quads, not pleasant. More than twice the distance of a marathon but feels much longer. Finished in 9hrs 40. But the race itself was magical, the best start of any race on the world, then amazing sights, sounds all the way... Crowds you would not believe, the whole 90k cheering you on, right till the end in a stadium finish. Everyone waits for the 12hr cut off when no one else is allowed to cross the line. No medal, no time. It really is the greatest foot race in the world. Humbled but loved it. In experiences, Comrades is worth 10 or 20 times any marathon, no other race like it. If you love running, one day you have to do this race."

Apocalypse 50 Ultra - 50 Miles - Saturday 14 May 2016

Steve Armstrong

The difficulty was notched up substantially in 2016 Apocalypse 50 Ultra. At registration participants received a passport and then followed the paths of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. To complete the course it was necessary to: Make Conquest, Fight Famine, Go to War and Escape Death - each of these was a loop on part of the course. In 2016 Apocalypse participants had to take on all four horsemen (two horsemen if you were doing the Marathon). Each apocalyptic loop starts and ends at the central HQ in Church Stretton, Shropshire. This meant the loops took full advantage of the extreme nature of the hills surrounding the valley, as a result, there was 10,000ft of ascent and 10,000ft of descent across the four Apocalyptic loops. Participants did not have to follow the course in traditional fashion, of mile 1 to 50, instead, when the horn blew you could go in any one of four directions to face each of the four distinct loops. Kareen Porschke said the start looked like a Monty Python sketch! Steve Smith and Steve Armstrong showed great resilience in completing the four loops. Photos
