Phuket, Thailand 70.3 Triathlon - - Sunday 04 December 2011

Claire Walton completed the Phuket Half Triathlon in 5 hours 32 minutes, Clare said "possibly the most beautiful race I have ever done!!... and fell off my bike after crashing into a chicken!". This race certainly can lay claim to one of the more unique Ironman swim courses in the world. First the athletes had to swim 1.28km in the ocean then exit the water and run up a sand bank and into a lagoon for the final 620m of the swim that will took them into the swim/bike transition. The bike course for this race is truly challenging and unique. At one point in the race the cyclists had to get off their bikes and cross a ramp and a pedestrian bridge. The 21km run course is one loop into the Laguna Phuket Golf Course before heading back to the finish line at the Laguna Beach Resort. Claire was 4th in her age category, a great result in an event of such a good standard.

Over 280 runners entered the 50km (31miles) 9bar London ULTRA. In perfect running conditions (9°C), the field set off from Streatham Common on the Capital Ring trail that circumnavigates the Capital using a network of footpaths, parks and canals. The finish was at Wembley and the race is the nation's largest ULTRAmarathon. Claire Walton was first lady in 4:34:51 and according to the official website she 'finished comfortably and looks to be a name to watch in future running events in the UK.'. A truly fantastic result for Claire and another great win for her. This was only Nick Holt's 2nd outing for a race of marathon distance or over, having run just the Loch Ness marathon prior to this event, a top third finish is definitely worthy of note. Not to mention the fact that after a slight error in navigation Nick actually ran 32.5 instead of the required 31 miles!
