As anticipated, the fixture of the above club with North Liverpool Gymnasium Harriers proved both attractive and exciting, and resulted in what must be looked upon as the most successful of the races which have so far been held under its auspices.
There was a turnout of about forty runners, both clubs placing strong teams in the field, thereby making the issue one of the greatest interest. A six miles course was taken, through the Central Park across the Model Farm, down St. Hilary Brow and on to the Marshes, returning over the golf links, up Grove-road, round the Warren, and along Seabank-road. The last mile was taken as a break, with the following result:-
Homecroft. N.L.G.H.
1 J. B. Barley 1 1 J. S. Gilbertson 3
2 T. J. Brookes 2 2 R. Cummings 4
3 W. S. Brookes 5 3 H. Bray 8
4 E. E. Jones 6 4 T. Keay 9
5 S. L. Brookes 7 5 G. A. T. Ridley 10
6 P. T. Monks 12 6 D. Liddle 11
33 45
The occasion was marked by the reappearance of Gilbertson, the visitors' best man, after being- laid up for six or seven weeks, but, judging by the fresh and easy finish of the home team's men, the result is perhaps a fair criterion of the comparative merits of each club. Homecroft are to be congratulated upon such a victory, in this their first racing season, and with the addition of one or two men to strengthen their sixth position they may be relied upon to give no mean account of themselves against any of the district teams. On Saturday, the 20th inst., Homecroft hold a return fixture with Richmond Harriers. They meet by the Liverpool Town Hall at 2.45 and take the Fazakerley car from Old Haymarket, which goes within a hundred yards of 406, Longmoor-lane, the headquarters of Richmond.
