The above club held an ordinary run from their headquarters, Grove Pavilion, Harrison-drive, on Saturday last, there being again a good muster.
The pack were piloted by the captain, T. J. Brookes, over a course of about seven miles, to Leasowe, including the "Birket," returning along the shore. At the "Birket" some amusement was caused by Geo. Newnes jumping short and falling back into the water. One or two members were out for their first time, and it is anticipated that; the strength of the club will be further increased today.
At the National Athletic Huron annual meeting, held on Thursday last, it was decided to hold the Monstre Meet from the headquarters of the New Brighton A.C. next Saturday, the 21st inst. This meeting is practically speaking, the opening run of the season, in which all the clubs in the Liverpool & District, affiliated to the N.A.U., will take part, the total number of runners being about 200. A course of about five miles of country is to be taken at an easy pace and a mile from home the men will be divided into two sections, the novices and the seniors, and will race over that distance, the race to take place along Leasowe-road, finishing under the railway bridge. Three prizes are to be given to the first three novices to arrive, and similar awards to the first three seniors. The pack will be captained by that well-known runner, Sep Francom, while Jimmy Roberts and Charlie Haworth, of Sefton Harriers and Pembroke H. & A.C. respectively, are to act as sub-captains. The whippers-in will be Frank Latham, of Wirral A.C. and H. Reg. Scoins, of the New Brighton Club. Three prizes to the clubs with the largest musters are to be awarded, and it is hoped that all members of New Brighton A.C. will make a special effort to attend.
