The above club decided their club championship last Saturday in fine but rather cold weather, over a course of seven miles of country. In consequence of the splendid muster of runners there was very keen racing. T. J. Brookes, the popular sub-captain, made a great effort to retain his title of club champion, but R. Young, who has been running very well for some time past, proved too much for him and won by 23 seconds.
The first six men to arrive and their respective times were as follows:
1. R. Young 42 0
2. T. J. Brookes 42 23
3. F. L. Thornton 43 0
4. E. S. Bale 44 5
5. C. H. Spence 44 53
6. R. J. Lowes 45 10
Practically all the men who are to represent the club in the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Championship next Saturday were running, and the majority of them showed good form. There was a sealed handicap in connection with the event, three prizes being given. These were awarded to the following:-
1. G. H. Spence, one of the old "war-horses" who ran splendidly, finishing seventh.
2. J. Turnbull, one of this year's novices, who showed a great improvement.
3. R. J. Lowes, who ran well, but not up to his usual standard.
There will be an ordinary run from headquarters to-day at 3.30 p.m. prompt. All supporters of the club are requested to make an effort to be present at the district championship race at Bebington next Saturday.
