A pack of twenty Wallasey runners visited Liverpool Harriers' headquarters on Saturday last for a three-cornered contest with Liverpool and Boundary Harriers.
Owing to the small turn-out of the home club they elected to lay the trail, leaving Wallasey and Boundary to fight matters out over an ideal five miles of country. The first two men to arrive were C. J. Howson and A. McMaster, both of Wallasey, Boundary providing the next man in H. H. Herbert, who was closely followed by 3 more Wallasey men, giving the Cheshire club a win by 22 points. The placings were as follows:- Wallasey: C. J. Howson 1, A. McMaster 2, A. G. Scoins 4, T. M. S. Hughes 5, R. Young 6, F. N. Barlow 11, total 29. Boundary: H. H. Herbert 3, P. Smith 7, W. Rimmer 8, P. Garner 9, W. Parry 10, F. Bishop 14, total 51.
Mr. A. G. Nicholson, president of Wallasey H. and A.C., has this year received the signal honour of being elected president of the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Union, of the West Lancashire C.C.A., and of the Northern Counties C.C.A., and a vice-president of the National Cross-Country Association of England. Mr. Nicholson, who has been a splendid all-round athlete, having made a name for himself in running circles all over the country, was one of the founders of Wallasey Harriers, and will receive the heartiest congratulations from his numerous friends in attaining these positions, where men of his calibre are badly wanted.
