Twelve competitors lined up on Saturday last to decide the club's five mile handicap. Starts were allotted up to seven minutes from the club champion, R. Young.
The course was over mixed country in the direction of Bidston and Moreton. The runners were dispatched by Mr. W. S. Brooks, acting as timekeeper and starter.
The field quickly spread out, but T. N. Etheridge overcoming all opposition, and running in easy style, worked his way to the premier position by the time the half distance had been covered, finishing alone in excellent time. Second and third places were occupied by P. Pennington and G. F. Lowes respectively, a couple of yards separating them. A. McMaster covered the distance in the fastest time, he also being well up at the finish, though starting from a very back mark. To-day's fixture, club run from Thorndale Farm at 3.30 p.m.
