Success of the Wallasey H. and A.C. at Monstre Meet

Last Saturday the club journeyed to Fazackerley to take part in the monstre meet held under the auspices of the West Lancashire Cross-Country Association and the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Union from the headquarters of the Liverpool Pembroke Harriers.

It was splendid weather, fine but cold, and exactly 200 runners set off shortly after four o'clock over a course of about five miles in the direction of Kirby. A mile from home the runners were lined up for a "break," the seniors being separated from the novices.

The seniors went off first, and the race was won by that excellent mile runner C. Rae, of Sefton H. & A.C., A. McMaster and G. Lowes, of the local club. Both ran very well considering they were unfit, and finished well up in the field.

The novices, however, were the centre of interest, as of course there was a much larger number of runners, and the friends of the local club were very gratified to see the race won easily and comfortably by T. N. Etheridge, who has lately joined the Wallasey club. Etheridge has a very good style, and without doubt will prove a valuable asset to the local team in the various championships later in the season.

The arrangements made for the meeting were excellent, and great thanks are due to Liverpool Pembroke Harriers for providing such a splendid afternoon's sport.

This week an ordinary run will be held from Thorndale Farm, Wallasey-road, and next week also the club will be at home. Attention must now be directed to the placing of a strong and representative team in the West Lancashire novice team race, which will take place on the 6th December, the venue of which is to be announced later, and a club handicap will be held early in November to help the committee to find out their likely runners.

There is still room for new members and a hearty welcome is assured to any new-comers at Thorndale Farm at 3.30 to-day or at the same time next Saturday.
