The annual general meeting of the club was held at the Leasowe Castle Hotel, Seacombe, on Tuesday last, when there was a large attendance.
In opening the proceedings the President (Mr. A. G. Nicholson) paid a most eloquent tribute to the memory of the very numerous members who lost their lives during the war. After he had given a brief resume of the club's activities in the past, there was a very full discussion of ways and means of reconstituting the club on sound principles, in which Mr. T. H. Blair, and Mr. J. Bennett (both well-known lights in the athletic world of the North) gave the meeting the benefit of their able advice.
Mr. Nicholson, president of the West Lancs. Cross-Country Association, was unanimously re-elected president, with Mr. W. S. Brookes as his active "Vice," and the meeting proceeded to fill the vacancies in officers and members of the committee.
The club has been very fortunate in obtaining the interest and support of Mr. Kenneth Peers, who won for himself a great reputation at Berkhampstead whilst with the Inns of Court, where on numerous occasions he was an easy viator over "fields," which included many of the best distance winners of the world, amongst whom was Tom Longboat, of Olympic Marathon fame. Unfortunately Mr. Peers was afterwards seriously wounded, but happily he is making a good recovery, and it is hoped that perhaps at no very distant date he may be able to don the green singlet.
The opening run takes place from Thorndale Farm, Wallasey-road, to-day (Saturday), while next week the monstre meet of all the clubs in the district will be held from the headquarters of Pembroke Harriers at Fazackerley.
Prospective members are invited to communicate with A. G. Scoins, 25, Parkfield-drive, Wallasey, or Jos. Eivers, 42, Highfield-road, Rock Ferry.
