There was a large muster for the training run held last Saturday from Leasowe-road headquarters, including several newcomers a welcome sign in these days of reduced membership.
The pack crossed the marshes at an easy pace and kept well together as far as Bidston, where it split into two sections, one, making for the Upton footpath, followed the usual seven miles route, while the other pack turned right, crossed the railway, and returned to headquarters via Leasowe a distance of approximately four miles.
Of those who took the longer course K. Baird, J. Davies, J. Edwards and W. G. Williams were prominent, all finishing strongly over the last mile.
F. G. Ambrose was again first man home of those taking the shorter route, but he was compelled to force the pace all the way in order to keep ahead of L. Hughes and J. Cunningham, as the latter pair revealed an unexpected turn of speed in Leasowe-road.
To-day the club visit Waterloo to compete in the monster meet, an opening cross-country run, supported by all the local clubs. "Novice" and Senior "Mile Breaks " wind-up the run and Wallasey A.C.'s prospects of annexing some of the prizes offered are very bright this year, particularly in the "Novice" section.
The club house, Festival Pavilion, Leasowe-road, will be open to those not making the journey to Waterloo. A club run organised by Mr. W. G. Williams will take place at 3-30 p.m.
Prospective members can obtain information re the club's activities from the hon. secretary, Mr. R. G. Hyde, 14 Cromer-drive.
