There was a good muster at Leasowe-road headquarters last Saturday and a training run was held over the full seven miles course.
For once no separate packs were formed and all members left headquarters at 3-45 p.m. With the Birket still in spate the majority preferred to avoid crossing the marshes rather than risk a repetition of last week's soaking, and consequently Bidston had to be reached via the railway embankment and the footpath. One advantage of this route was the firmer going, which resulted in much faster times than usual being returned.
B. Morgan, L. Bell, K. Baird, T. B. Calverley and H. Jones were soon in the lead and after a hard race B. Morgan annexed first place in 43 mins. 5 secs., with L. Bell a close second. Not more than a minute, however, separated the first five; a satisfactory indication that team packing is at last improving.
To-day the team visit Sefton A.C., at West Derby, and there is every prospect of a hard and closely contested race. Meet at Liverpool Town Hall 2-20 p.m.
Short road runs (from three-five miles) will be organised every Tuesday evening. Information re same can be obtained from the club captain. W. R. Richardson, 12 Burns-avenue.
