Last Saturday favoured Wallasey A.C. with, one of the best runs of the season. The weather of late had made the going heavy, especially round Moreton district, but nevertheless several runners made noteworthy performances.
As usual the runners set out at varying intervals. Unfortunately no real comparison can be made between the several packs as different courses were resorted to.
A few preferred to take the shorter six mile championship course, but the majority followed Bob Young over the new eight mile course which will be used in future for competitive events. One ol the advantages of this course is the greater percentage of country.
The club intends eventually to cut out a great deal of the straight mile down Leasowe-road, which forms the present finish, by traversing a course which runs parallel with the road, leaving only a short run in of about 600 yards. This should ensure some spirited finishing in future events.
The honours for last Saturday's run must be awarded to H. C. Binns, who left home accompanied by the super F. K. Ledward a good quarter of a mile behind the fast pack, and succeeded in finishing second.
Young Blake Calverley is the most promising of this year's new runners. He has a strong, determined action and shows fine agility at obstacles. With experience this boy will prove a formidable opponent.
To-day the club will be visited by one of the most formidable cross-country teams on Merseyside - Wirral A.C.
Unfortunately the club's hopes are but light us the club captain, W. R. Richardson, is still recuperating, and his absence, together with that of F. K. Ledward, will be severely felt. Thus the club will rely to a large extent on its less experienced runner's who have been showing good form of late.
