There was a fine muster on Saturday last for the championship of the Wallasey Club.
Conditions were ideal for the race over seven miles of good country. The runners got away with a fast start, and after the first mile there commenced a battle royal for premier honours between Neale and Richardson. At the Leasowe crossing Richardson finally forged ahead and won a great race in the remarkably good time of 34 mins. 40 secs., easily a record for the course. He was followed by Norman Neale, who returned 35 mins. 13 secs., and the third position was filled by Gill Williams in 37 mins. 35 secs.
The handicap run in conjunction with the championship resulted as follows:- 1st, P. Small; 2nd, W. G. Williams; 3rd, W. R. Richardson; 4th, N. J. Neale. It speaks well for the handicapping inasmuch as only 16 seconds divided the first four men home.
At the distribution of the challenge cup and prizes, great things were promised for the approaching summer season, and with the promise that has been shown throughout the winter, the Wallasey Club can look forward with confidence to a very successful track season.
To-day, at 3-15 p.m., the final run of the season will take place from head-quarters, Festival Hut, Leasowe-road. A handicap will be framed and prizes awarded to the first three home.
