The Liverpool Police sports, held at Fairfield last Saturday, again proved a great attraction for spectators and athletics alike. A fine exhibition of horsemanship was given by members of the mounted police and an old friend in Mr. G. N. White at the microphone kept the programme moving easily.
Wallasey Athletic Club provided a surprise in one of the big races of the afternoon by finishing two runners in the first three in the mile open handicap. N. I. Marples, who has been making steady improvement during the last twelve months, won by about five yards from B. Nolan, Liverpool Pembroke, and K. Westmore, of Wallasey A.C., moved up quickly from a back mark to be a close-up third. The time' was 4 minutes 7 3-5 seconds,
Sefton Harriers took the sprint and relay titles, whilst Liverpool Pembroke, led home by their irresistible international, Norman Jones, won the two-mile team race, and another of their runners, W. Usherwood, took the half-mile handicap.
