Wallasey Athletic Club held another preliminary run from the Festival pavilion in Leasowe-road last Saturday.
Captain Richardson took out the slow pack over a six miles course and 15 minutes later a faster pack followed. In view of the delightfully warm weather, practically everyone avoided serious effort. The youths (under 18) cut the course to four miles, and the slow pack was caught by the faster ones at Sutton's farm, a mile from the finish. Up to here the only two noted as trying in the slows were W. R. Richardson, complete with weight reducing sweater - the only one on view, and the club's hon. treasurer, J. L. Davies, who was striding out very nicely. Of the fast pack, J. Yeoman maintained a brisk pace.
In the mile finish down the road Westmore, the 'Varsity "crack," easily outpaced the others, Edwards being 2nd, N. Marples third, with Davis a close up fourth.
To-day, in addition to the usual run from headquarters, a team of Old Wallaseyans will meet the Grammar School over the latter's course, starting from Sutton's farm at 3-15 p.m., and next Saturday the customary " Monster Meet" marks the official opening of the cross-country season. This time its is to be staged at Liverpool Harriers & A.C. new home at Gateacre.
To those wishing to keep fit this winter no better opportunity can be offered than cross-country running, an old established sport with an old established club. Inquiries will be welcomed and promptly attended to by:-Reg. G. Hyde , 11 Cromer-drive, hon. secretary, and John Edwards, 6 Ferndale-avenue ('phone Wallasey 4739).
