Wallasey Athletic Club country runners continued their early season training with an easy run over the country, but the attendance was again disappointing.
It cannot be emphasised too much that prospective team runners in particular should now be training regularly to avoid being found wanting when the championships come along and we should like to see a much larger turn-out this Saturday afternoon, when there will be the usual club run from Leasowe Road head quarters, commencing 3.15 p.m.
Several Wallasey cadets were highly placed in the North-West Cadet Championships held a fortnight ago, which is only another indication that the borough has athletic talent in plenty which may well provide top-class material with the necessary coaching and encouragement. In this connection Wallasey A.C. are now in a better position to give this than ever before and hot and cold showers and canteen facilities are. also available.
Applications for membership will be welcomed by assistant secretary Bob McCaig, 30 Taunton Road, Wallasey (Wall. 8904).
The Wallasey schools' cross-country championships will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from Leasowe Road H.Q., and entries from school teams and youth organisations should be sent as soon as possible to Mr. R. F. Hubbard, 39 Beech Road. Birkenhead.
A lecture will be given next Thursday, October 23rd, at Picton Hall, Liverpool, by the chief national athletics coach Geoff Dyson, whose subject will be "The Lessons at Helsinki." His talk will be supplemented by films which will include the official film of the Games if this is available in time.
Next Saturday there will be a club fixture against Liverpool Pembroke at Court Hey Road, and Wallasey runners will meet at Liverpool Pier Head at 2 p.m.
