To-day sees the first match of the Merseyside League. Wallasey Athletic Club are running against the Warrington and Sefton Clubs at West Derby.
These matches include junior and senior runners only, but youths, etc., are usually catered for with a run of their own. Members who intend running should meet at Liverpool Pier Head at 1.30 p.m.
It is expected that for this first match a complete club turnout is necessary. Points gained in these matches are very scarce and we have the chance of picking up at least two to-day.
Next Saturday the club runs at Childwall versus Liverpool and Wirral. This match should be interesting as the friendly rivalry goes back to pre-war days, when the various teams battled for supremacy. Wallasey was often in the lead and then surpassed, but fought back valiantly and it was estimated prior to the war that Wallasey, as the club stood at the time, was the foremost of the district. It is now up to those of the present to emulate these past achievements.
