A second lieutenant in the Woman's Royal Army Corps., Miss Penny Price, daughter of Commander L. D. Price, general manager of Wallasey Ferries, brought of a notable hat-trick of victories in the Army Athletic Championships at Aldershot. She won the two sprint events (100 an 220 yards) and the long jump.
Penny, a B.Sc. Graduate of Nottingham University, where she was captain of women's athletics, has been T.A. Sprint champion for the past three years and holds the record in the long jump and 100-yard events.
She plans to retire from athletics at the end of the present season and to devote her spare time in the future to rifle shooting and to riding.
But before she does so, Penny has two further important engagements - the inter-services meeting and the clash between the Combined Services and the Combined Universities. This latter event is a particularly interesting one at which to close her athletic career as she has previously captained the universities against the Combined Services, for whom she will be competing on this occasion.
Penny began her career in athletics with the Wallasey Athletic Club eleven years ago. She reached the All-England Schools' finals in two successive years, finishing second to June Paul and to Heather Armitage, two famous Olympic runners.
