With no race on Saturday, Wallasey's athletes decided to visit Wales last Sunday for another run infamous hill course.
As usual, the race was run as a handicap to give even the slowest runner a chance to cross the line first.
With the course record standing at 14 minutes 51 seconds in the name of ex-international Brian Woodford, no one could have expected its complete eclipse, as was to happen.
First arrival was Bob Brimage, whose time was 19 mins. 30 secs, less his handicap of 3 mins. 20, giving an actual time of 16 mins. 10 secs.
Second home, after scorching right through the field to catch all but one runner, was Johnny Jones in 19 mins. 41 secs. or an actual time of 14 mins. 21 secs, to break the old record by 30 seconds.
Third in, following the record - breaker right through the field was Dave Lockley 19 mins. 45 secs. (14 mins. 25 secs.).
Two of the club's girls completed the course in good time. In tenth place was Barbara Banks in 20 mins. 57 secs. (17 mins. 37), and Sylvia Brimage in 23 mins. 27 secs. (21 mins. 27 secs.).
