Today, Wallasey Athletic Club women's cross-country team are competing in the National Championships at High Wycombe. As Northern champions they must be capable of providing a strong challenge to the Southern clubs who have recently dominated this event.
The course is described as fast but quite hilly so the undoubted stamina of the of the Wallasey girls will be an advantage over the speedier southern girls.
Barbara Banks will be attempting to regain her position in the England team for the interNational Championships at Cambridge in March.
Supporting Barbara, who is at present fighting a heavy cold, will be Janice Watts, 4th in the Northern and a former Welsh Schools International, to-day captaining Wallasey's greatest team. Margaret Ashcroft and Mary Caldwell are the other likely counters the two girls of whom the team result will undoubtedly depend.
ln the minors race Lynn Carter 8th in the inter-counties championships should be set for a place in the first ten.
