Mud up to the ankles and slippery conditions prevailed throughout the whole course at Parliament Hill Fields last Saturday. Severe rain completely washed out any attempt at speed and 'slog' was the order of the day.
Wallasey's contingent, in the youths' race did well though injuries upset some of the competitors. Barlow finished 27th after being spiked at the start, a courageous attempt in the conditions he had to go through. D. White, suffering from a sprained ankle he sustained in the Northern Championships carried on and finished 40th.
Out of 600 competitors Wallasey's four county men finished as follows:- R. Barlow 27th, A. Townsend 47th, P. Townsend 163rd, B. Chalton 193rd. The total points were 430 and the team position was 12th out of 103 teams.
Not a bad result considering the injuries and as this championship takes in all the country, Wallasey must be proud of its youth team. Also running in the youth team was D. Noble who finished 347th.
John Wright finished 73rd in the senior championship which was run during a fine drizzle. This performance was very creditable as over 700 runners started.
