Preview
On Saturday 24 November, Liverpool will again play host to one of the year?s major athletics events. The country?s top cross country runners will battle to secure places on the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to compete at the 2007 European Championships in Toro, Spain.
The Liverpool event is part of the UK Cross Challenge, an annual series of cross country events which this year takes in four venues throughout the country. It brings together local club runners who compete alongside the elite athletes in a series of races for all ages. The beautiful surroundings of Sefton Park will once again see runners from the Mid Lancashire and Liverpool and District Cross Country Leagues join with the nation?s best athletes in a day of top class athletics entertainment.
Liverpool City Council and UK Athletics join forces to stage the event and the importance to the city of events such as this cannot be overstated. Top class sporting events not only provide marvellous viewing for spectators and bring prestige to the city, but the performances of top class athletes also inspire and motivate the next generation to take up sport and in many cases go on to achieve great things themselves. With the 2012 London Olympics on the horizon, events such as the Liverpool Cross Challenge provide a showcase for the very best of current and future athletics talent.
