Saturday saw the finals of the A.A.A. junior and youth championships at Crystal Palace, in which Wallasey had two representatives.
The previous evening saw the heats of the championships in which Bob Warburton, Cheshire's 800 metres, representative in the English Schools, qualified for the final of the youths' 800 metres by returning an excellent time of 1 min. 59.1s, which is not only a personal best for Bob but is faster than some of the club's senior runners.
Bob finished ninth in the final in exactly two minutes also a very creditable time.
Wallasey's other representative was Pete Lewis, Northern Counties' junior 400 metres' champion who was sadly eliminated in his heat which produced four of the finalists. Peter finished seventh in a good time of 51.3 seconds, only 0.4 seconds outside his best.
