Ron Barlow and Brian Woolford of Wallasey Athletic Club, represented Cheshire in the Inter-Counties Cross-Country meeting last Saturday, in one of the strongest teams Cheshire has fielded for many years.
Barlow was the first man home for Cheshire in 24th position which shows that he is truly of National standard. Woolford also counted for team placings in 104th position.
Both runners justified their selection in helping Cheshire to attain 9th position out of 39 competing counties.
This was the highest position that Cheshire has attained since the beginning of the championships.
On Friday, January 28, the chief national athletics coach, Mr. Dennis Watts, will be attending Oldershaw Grammar School and bringing with him a film of the 1964 Olympic Games. He will lecture on the styles and performances of the various athletes on the film and will give further examples by means of 'loop' films.
The programme will start at 7:30 p.m. and any member of Wallasey Athletic Club who wishes to attend is asked to be there as promptly as possible.
Today there will be a club run from Leasowe Club headquarters for all members, which will give an opportunity to complete a fairy long run before the West Lancashire Championships next Saturday.
