One of the most popular events in the cross-country calendar takes place to-day, when the annual Wallasey Schools Championships will be decided from Leasowe Road Playing Fields.
These individual and team championships have always been keenly fought out and some good running is assured this afternoon, The start is at 2:45 p.m.
The first of the season's cross-country team championships - the West Lancashire Novice - will be run on December 1 at West Derby, when the Wallasey team will be captained by R. McCaig, who ran so well in this year's Liverpool Marathon.
The team was out in force last Saturday, and J. Lynch, R. Scammell, J. Winnow and A. Clarke were all moving strongly. Prominent amongst the seniors running over an 8 miles course was, J. M. Rimmer, several times a medallist in successful Wallasey teams both before and since the war.

In the North-West Counties Amateur Weight Lifting championships held at Liverpool on Saturday, Ron Brownbill, Wallasey's British 8-stone champion, competed in the 9-stone class, and won this event with a total lift of 530lbs. This was made up of press 155lbs., snatch 1701bs., and jerk 205lbs, a fine performance which promises well for his future in this weight class.
Jack McCulloch also performed creditably in the 11-stone class, being placed third with a total lift of 625lbs.
